Deane Promoted to Vice President, Quality
Frank Deane, Ph.D., vice president of manufacturing at Eli Lilly and Company, has been promoted to vice president, quality, effective immediately. The announcement was made today by Pedro Granadillo, Lilly senior vice president.
"I'm very pleased to have Frank assume this new responsibility," said Granadillo. "His proven experience in manufacturing, technical service and quality, combined with his ability to build organizations and increase their capability, make him ideally suited to assume this position."
Deane also will become a member of the Lilly senior management forum and will report to Granadillo.
Deane joined Lilly in 1979 at the company's manufacturing operation in Kinsale, Ireland, where he held a number of operational responsibilities until moving to the United States as manager of quality control and technical services at the company's Clinton Laboratories near Clinton, Ind.
He became manager of development projects management in Indianapolis in 1988 and then transferred to Puerto Rico in 1989 where he had responsibility for production, quality and technical services in Lilly's operations there. He returned to the U.S. in 1993 as general manager of U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturing and, promoted to vice president in 1997, assumed responsibility for the company's worldwide bulk manufacturing operations. He was promoted to his former position in June 2001.
Deane replaces Alan Dinner, Ph.D., who is retiring after 27 years at Lilly. Dinner's strong technical background, combined with his very high standards of personal integrity, was instrumental in raising the awareness and importance of quality throughout the company's global organization.
